Welcome to CheckWriter (available on the App Store as "Check Writer: Print & PDF") ("CheckWriter," "we," "our," "us," or "the App"). CheckWriter is an on-device tool that lets you write checks, preview them realistically, print them, export them as PDFs, share them, and keep a private register of the checks you've written.
CheckWriter is built to be private by default: there is no account to create, no login, and no cloud. Your checks, bank account details, payees, and signatures are stored only on your device.
BY USING THE APP, YOU AGREE TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT USE THE APP.
## 1. What This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy explains: (a) what information the App handles, (b) how it is used, (c) the limited data shared with service providers, (d) how it is secured, and (e) the choices you have.
## 2. Core Privacy Commitments
CheckWriter is built with privacy-first defaults:
✅ Your checks, bank account details, payees, and signatures stay on your device — they are never uploaded to us
✅ No account and no login required
✅ We do not operate our own servers or cloud database that store your personal content
✅ No selling of personal data
✅ No third-party advertising networks, no ad profiling, no cross-app tracking
✅ No App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt — we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other apps
✅ No precise location, and no access to your contacts
✅ Camera and photo access are optional and used only to capture or import your signature, on your device
✅ Limited, anonymized analytics only — your financial details (amounts, account numbers, routing numbers, payee names, memos, and signatures) are never sent to analytics
✅ Payments are handled by Apple — we never see or store your card details
✅ Notifications are optional and processed locally on your device
## 3. Information We Collect
### 3.1 Information You Provide and Create (Stored On Your Device)
To write and manage checks, you may enter and save, on your device only:
- Bank account details you choose to add: account nickname, payer name and address, bank name, routing number, account number, and check size
- Your signature (drawn, typed, or imported from a photo)
- Payees (names and optional notes)
- Check details: payee, amount, amount-in-words, date, memo, and check number
- Your register of written checks and their status (recorded, printed, cleared, voided)
- App settings, selected template, print calibration, and onboarding state
This information is stored locally on your device and is used solely to let the App work for you — to preview, print, export, share, and track your checks. **It is never transmitted to us, and we have no servers that store it.**
### 3.2 Identifiers
- **Device ID:** A unique identifier from your device, used to associate your anonymized analytics and your subscription status with this installation. It is not linked to your name, and the App has no user account.
- We do **not** collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and do **not** present an ATT tracking prompt.
### 3.3 Usage and Analytics Data
To understand how the App is used and to improve it, we collect anonymized, non-identifying usage events through Mixpanel, such as:
- Which features and screens are used, and how often
- App launches, navigation, and settings changes
- Onboarding progress and completion
- Coarse, non-identifying amount "buckets" (for example, "$50–$200") for funnel analysis — never the actual amount
**Strict financial-privacy rule:** We never send your real check amounts, bank account numbers, routing numbers, payee names, memos, or signature data to analytics. Only counts, booleans, enums, and coarse buckets are sent.
You can turn analytics off entirely at any time in Settings.
### 3.4 Technical and Diagnostic Data
To keep the App stable and compatible, we collect anonymized:
- Crash and error events
- Device model and operating system version
- App version, locale, and time zone
This is collected through Mixpanel and contains no personal or financial content.
### 3.5 Purchase and Subscription Data
If you subscribe to CheckWriter Pro:
- Your payment is processed entirely by the Apple App Store. We never see or store your full payment or card details.
- CheckWriter Pro is offered as a weekly, monthly, or yearly auto-renewable subscription. It renews automatically through Apple unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Subscription management and purchase verification are handled by RevenueCat on our behalf. RevenueCat receives anonymized subscription events (for example, subscription started, renewed, or expired), subscription product identifiers, and a RevenueCat-generated anonymous identifier. No payment card details and none of your check or account data are shared with RevenueCat.
- The App stores your subscription status on your device to unlock Pro features.
### 3.6 Camera and Photos (Optional)
- If you choose to capture or import a signature, the App uses your camera or photo library to obtain that single image.
- The image is processed on your device and saved with your account on your device. It is not uploaded to us.
### 3.7 Notifications (Optional)
- If you enable notifications, iOS will ask for your permission.
- Notifications are scheduled and shown locally on your device. We do not run a push server and do not collect data through notifications.
## 4. Information We Do NOT Collect
The App does not require or collect:
❌ Your bank account numbers, routing numbers, payee names, check amounts, memos, or signatures on any server (these stay on your device)
❌ Precise location (GPS / geolocation)
❌ Access to your contacts or address book
❌ The advertising identifier (IDFA) or any cross-app tracking
❌ Biometric data (Face ID / Touch ID is handled by iOS for device unlock only and is never transmitted to us)
❌ Your full financial or card information (handled entirely by Apple)
❌ Browsing or search history outside the App
❌ Audio recordings (the App has no voice features)
## 5. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide core functionality — let you write, preview, print, export as PDF, share, and track checks on your device
- Verify and manage your CheckWriter Pro subscription (via Apple and RevenueCat) and unlock Pro features
- Send optional local reminders and offers, if you grant notification permission
- Understand anonymized usage to fix bugs, measure stability, and improve features
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations
We do **not** use your information for third-party advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell it.
## 6. How Data Is Linked to You
- Your checks, bank details, payees, and signatures live on your device and are linked to you only on that device.
- Analytics data is anonymized and associated with a Device ID, not with your name (the App has no account or name on file).
- Subscription data is associated with an anonymous RevenueCat identifier and your Apple ID purchase, not with your check content.
## 7. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of providers to operate the App. They process data only as described below.
### 7.1 Apple App Store (Apple Inc.)
- **Purpose:** Payment and subscription processing.
- **Data:** Purchase and subscription handled by Apple. We never receive your card details.

### 7.2 RevenueCat, Inc.
- **Purpose:** Subscription management and purchase verification.
- **Data shared:** Anonymized subscription events, subscription product identifiers, and a RevenueCat-generated anonymous identifier.
- **Data NOT shared:** Your checks, bank details, payees, signatures, or payment card details.

- RevenueCat acts as a processor on our behalf and does not use your data for its own advertising.
### 7.3 Mixpanel, Inc.
- **Purpose:** Anonymized product analytics and crash/diagnostic reporting.
- **Data shared:** Anonymized interaction events (screen views, feature usage), coarse amount buckets, device model, OS version, and app version.
- **Data NOT shared:** Your name, check amounts, account or routing numbers, payee names, memos, or signatures.

- You can disable analytics entirely in Settings.
## 8. How We Share Information
We do **not** sell personal information. We share data only as needed to operate the App:
- **With service providers:** Apple (payments), RevenueCat (subscriptions), and Mixpanel (anonymized analytics), as described in Section 7. They are contractually required to protect data and may not use it for their own purposes beyond providing their service.
- **For legal reasons:** We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect rights, safety, and security, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms.
- **Business transfers:** If the App is acquired or merged, information may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to this Policy.
## 9. Data Storage and Security
### 9.1 On-Device Storage
Your checks, bank account details, payees, signatures, register, settings, and subscription status are stored locally on your device. We do not maintain a cloud copy of this content.
### 9.2 Limited Off-Device Data
Only anonymized analytics/diagnostics (Mixpanel) and anonymized subscription data (RevenueCat/Apple) are processed off your device, as described above.
### 9.3 Security Measures
We use industry-standard practices, including secure transmission (HTTPS/TLS) for the limited data sent to our providers, data minimization (we collect only what's needed), and reliance on iOS's app sandbox and storage protections on your device. However, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
## 10. Data Retention
- **On-device data:** Remains on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App.
- **Analytics data (Mixpanel):** Retained in anonymized form for a reasonable period to analyze trends and improve the App.
- **Subscription data (RevenueCat/Apple):** Retained while your subscription is active and as required to manage renewals and provide support.
## 11. Your Rights and Choices
### 11.1 In-App and iOS Controls
✅ **Delete all data:** Use "Delete all data" in Settings to erase every account, payee, check, signature, and setting stored on your device. This is immediate and cannot be undone (there is no cloud backup).
✅ **Analytics opt-out:** Turn off analytics in Settings at any time.
✅ **Notifications:** Manage via iOS Settings → Notifications, or in the App.
✅ **Camera / Photos:** Optional — manage via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
✅ **Subscription management:** Manage or cancel via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
✅ **Uninstall:** Removing the App deletes all locally stored data from your device.
### 11.2 Access, Correction, or Deletion Requests
Because your checks and personal content are stored only on your device, you control them directly through the App. For questions about the limited anonymized data held by our providers, contact us at [email protected].
### 11.3 Your Privacy Rights by Region
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA/CPRA (California), including rights to access, deletion, portability, and to object to or restrict processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
## 12. Children's Privacy
CheckWriter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact [email protected] and we will take steps to address it.
## 13. International Users
Our service providers (Apple, RevenueCat, Mixpanel) may process the limited data described above in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you consent to such processing. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used to protect data during international transfers.
## 14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. We will update the "Last Updated" date above, and for material changes we may provide additional notice in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
